Baptism

We are pleased and honored that you have chosen to have your child baptized at Scandia Lutheran. Having your child baptized here not only makes them a member of the Body of Christ, but a member of Scandia.

As parents you make promises to your child at his/her Baptism. As a faith community, Scandia Lutheran also makes promises. One of them is to help you teach your child about our Christian faith. As soon as you know when you would like your child to be baptized, please call the church office to schedule the date.

Holy Baptism is received by faith alone. By God's gift and call, all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus are daily put to death so that we might be raised daily to newness of life.  God, whose grace is for all, is the one who acts in Baptism. Therefore candidates for Baptism are of all ages. Some are adults and older children who have heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ, declare their faith, and desire Holy Baptism. Others are the young or infant children of  active members of the congregation or those children for whom members of the congregation assume sponsorship. In Holy Baptism, God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit delivers us from the forces of evil, puts our sinful self to death, gives us new birth, adopts us as children, and makes us member of the body of Christ, the Church.
